"You Never Know What Desperate Lives People Lead"

My grandmother said the most ironic statement to my dad and I while eating lunch yesterday. We were talking about today's society when she said, "You never know what desperate lives people lead".

This statement has kind of been the theme statement for our vacation thus far and although my dad and I didn't make eye contact, we both silently agreed.
